The aroma of ReBourne’s ‘Evolve’ and the melodies of Billie Ellish playing in the background; that’s the vibe of candle connoisseur Erin’s spacious Edgewater, New Jersey apartment. With fabulous art pieces, filled throughout and a large mirror any girl would live in, we got to sit down and chat about her being an introvert, her simple and cute style, and the life of an entrepreneur. It ain’t easy. Being raised between the Bronx and Harlem; is a recipe for determination. If you follow her on Instagram, you see the oddly satisfying videos of her pouring organic soy wax into cans that covered her large kitchen counters. Turning tragedy into triumph she created ReBourne. The word Bourne was taken from her Grandmother’s maiden name. With her grandmother’s plant in her living room, her face glowed while telling us about it. “This is my grandmothers”, she exclaimed. Erin prides herself on being a young woman who started over and overcame so much throughout her life. Although one might see her pictures and assume otherwise, she’s actually shy, quirky, and super down to earth. We arrived just while she was doing her makeup and hair and the conversations just flowed. She enjoys engaging in deep conversations about love and relationships and has a personality that is one-of-a kind. Get to know more about Erin below:
“Your heart wants you to be there for everyone, but I’ve learned it’s just not possible. People who actually care about you and your purpose will understand.”
BF: What made you get into the candle business?
Erin: “Ironically, I started making candles when a friend of mine asked me to refill some candles they had that were in custom jars. They assumed I could figure out how to do it because of my knowledge on the materials by way of an ex that was in the industry. It started out as a little challenge but once I actually found myself making the attempt I fell in love. Creating scent combinations became my peace during a very trying time in my life. ”
BF: How do you choose the name of the scents?
Erin: “The names of all of ReBourne’s scents are inspired by people who motivate me or things I realized were critical and even essential when I found myself truly understanding what self-love and care is. Each scent is meant to capture the element it represents in its entirety. When creating scent combos, I set out with the intentions of tapping into your mental receptors. Ex. Our “Bliss” candle is named such because studies say citrus smells send happy signals to your brain. ”
BF: What is your personal favorite scent?
Erin: “My personal favorite scent would have to be humble savage. For a few reasons, one being that it’s my homage to my mother. Two, who doesn’t have a little humble savage in them? Three, it’s the perfect balance of soft yet strong smells. A complex blend of subtle sexiness and undeniable confidence. Fits perfectly no matter the occasion or cause. So yeah, “Humble Savage” is my favorite for sure. ”
“I would describe my style as simple but timeless. My favorite fashion piece would have to be my Classic Jumbo Caviar Leather Chanel bag. Ughhhh, totally what I meant by simple but timeless. Lol.”
BF: What challenges do you face as an entrepreneur?
Erin: “Ughhhh, so many. The most major one I’d say is finding balance between friends/family and work. Most friends/family who aren’t entrepreneurs themselves won’t understand the sacrifices you have to make for a successful business. Your heart wants you to be there for everyone, but I’ve learned it’s just not possible. People who actually care about you and your purpose will understand. ”

BF: What is the day in the life like?
Erin: “Totally depends but typically I get up, give thanks, meditate, then ask Siri to show me today’s calendar and go. Thank god for Siri. ”
“I lost the one thing I thought I couldn’t live without already and guess what? I’m still living!!! My grandmother was my world. Never thought I’d bury her at 63. She was my mom In a sense.”
BF: How has your grandmother inspired you?
Erin: “Her strength inspired me most. Never seen a person go through so much and still be an honest person. She really was superwoman. Continuing everything she left behind is important to me. ”
BF: What point in your career did you have that ‘wow’ moment?
Erin: “Had to be the Black Friday 2018. It took me weeks to fulfill those orders. I needed a whole cart at the post office. I remember thinking to myself, wow I really did this. I actually recorded it to document it. I was in complete shock. Not that I didn’t think I could do it but that I actually did. ”
“The best advice my Grandmother gave me was to never let anyone steal your joy.”
